Marcia Barrow Taylor is an interdisciplinary artist and writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work is centered on a core question: Can art change the past?

Using a variety of mediums such as fiber, painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, performance, and new media Marcia explores cotton as material, motif, and metaphor. She turns to both figuration and abstraction to manipulate material and explore new narratives.

Her work is influenced by 19th-century Black female writers such as Anna Julia Cooper, as well as contemporary writers such as Toni Morrison.

Marcia has stated her work is, “a visual balm for the historical malady."
